Ok from the airport you can catch the public bus which is located in the second floor across from the delta check in. The bus is around $2 for a ride to the stop nearest the French quarter. Then u can hop on the canal street street car for about $1.25-1.50 for a one ride fare or $3 for a day pass which is very user friendly. The street car takes you all the way to the riverside market and also harrah's casino which is the last stop on this street car ( only about 5 stops to get to the end) there was no problem with bringing luggage on and when we arrived mid day it was not as busy although dinner time the street cars were pretty full but there were plenty to get everyone where they needed to go. So for under $5 each we got from the airport to the hotel which was Hilton riverside. Cabs run from $30-40 for this same trip

Shuttle Bus Dec 31, 2010
When arriving to New Orleans by air an easy way to get Downtown is to take the shuttle bus. It’s located by the exits and everybody will point you towards them. Its $20 one way to any hotel downtown, and that includes the French Quarter; you can also pay $38 for a roundtrip ticket. This is a good deal; I didn’t take advantage of this and wound up paying $30 for a taxi ride back to the airport. Another plus about the shuttle is odds are the driver will be a quasi tour guide/ jokester, at least that how my ride was. He also made sure to take the best routes to get everyone dropped off in time to get to the fireworks for New Years Eve. The shuttle is the cheapest and easiest way to get downtown for sure.
