Airport in New Jersey / Ny - Newark Liberty International Airport (ERW) Jul 17, 2008
The airport is located 3km south of Newark and 26km southwest of NYC, which makes it a good option if you want to visit the Big Apple.

It's also an important Continental's hub. Flights from all over the world come here. When I was there it was just for a layover and didn't even leave the airport, so I can't say much about security. But this was my port of entrance to the USA and have to say that clearing customs was pretty easy, taking in count the size of the airport and number of flights arriving. A couple of questions and I was ready to go.

I had to take another plane for a domestic flight and go to another terminal, but the transport between terminals was simple. They have the "Airtrain Newark" which makes things easy.

A couple of tips:

-Since it's not in NY itself, it's less crowded than LaGuardia or JFK. And there are some budget airlines serving this airport, so this would be a better choice if you are traveling with a budget.

-Don't worry about the transport from here to NYC. The Airport station is connected to the terminals via the free AirTrain. From here, Amtrak and NJ Transit trains run to Penn Station for connections to PATH subway trains, which serve downtown Manhattan and other stops. Furthermore there's an independent air shuttle service that operates helicopter flights between Manhattan and ERW.

-Well, this is almost NY but still NJ. So prices are not as high as in NY :P
