Nice and modern aiport in Ecuador - Guayaquil airport Jul 01, 2009
When I was planning my trip to Ecuador, I noticed that it was cheaper to flight to Guayaquil instead to Quito. Not only the tickets were cheaper, but also the airport fee.
This airport is new. It was finished just in 2006. It's modern and well organized. It's not big, so it's easy and quick to go through it.
As almost all of the airports in South America, you have to pay an Airport Fee if you are departing from here: US$ 27.75. I know it's not cheap, but less expensive than Quito's.
If you are flying international, you will go through the Duty Free area, which is like any other one, except from the fact they sell Shrimps, hahaha. Very well packed, so they will last 30hrs! Mmm, maybe next time, I'll get some. Flight back to Lima is just 2hrs.
Ecuador is promoting this airport, so you might be able to find better deals if you arrive to Guayaquil. Also it's located next to the bus terminal. So you won't even lose time going from one place to another.
I recommend you to come through this airport if you are thinking about Ecuador. It's not crowded, modern and less expensive.
Part of the First time in Ecuador, but definitely not the last one :) travel blog
