Ready to go to Seoul
posted by:
Nov 22, 2007 - Nov 23, 2007
I planned to go to Seoul a few months before but I wasn't sure about it.  A month before we left to Seoul, I asked my sister if she wants to come with me. She has been there once but she was with Korean friend and didn't remember where she went and wanted to visit again. So of course she said 'yes'. Now, we need to find everything. I was checking plane fare before so I knew how much would it be but when we actually booked a flight, it was already full and the price went up! I thin...

DAY 6. 9:31 PM (Tokyo)
posted by:
Jun 17, 2005 - Aug 26, 2005
Trying to remember what I did today. We ended up in a small town called Gamagori after we left Izu. We visited a big green tea plantation, where we were taught the traditional way to drink green tea. It was prepared in a special way that was apparently the "right way" to drink tea. I kept bumping my head on the ceiling because I was always careless watching where I was going. Plus, the ceiling was incredibly low. Anyways, it took us about 3 hours to get to this place called the Laguna Fish Ma...

Thoughts on my week in Nagoya

Nagoya, Japan -› Kyoto, Japan -› ...
January 19 brought to the end my brief stay in Nagoya working at Nagoya University in Professor Kawase's group.  My complete lack of knowledge of the Japanese language had worried me greatly before arriving in the country but my hosts were incredibly kind in trying really hard to speak English and make me feel welcome.  This is a trait found all over Japan it seems - the people are generally so helpful to gaijin (foreigners). Nagoya is a fairly standard city in many ways and probab...

via Nagoya on the Nozomi
posted by:
Mar 09, 2008 - Apr 01, 2008
We transfered in Nagoya onto the fastest version of the bullet trains - the Nozomi. We had only about 15 minutes between trains, but the Shinkansen (bullet train) lines were well marked. The Nozomi was fast! but once sitting on the train, you don't really feel it.

a little bicycle fun
posted by:
Mar 21, 2008
This weekend India and I decided to go for a bicycle ride. Aka the drunken tour de Japan. We ended up at a pachinko parlor with a good buzz. I quickly lost five dollars, as per usual, and we left. After pachinko we went across the street to one of India’s favorite restaurants. We had some more to drink and some really good food. We also had an in-depth political debate. That kind of thing never seemed like fun before but I must admit I did enjoy it. Probably because I won, that is un...

Right outside of base is the Honch.  This is where you will find many Sailors crawling from bar to bar to bar.  lol  It's a fun place and very convinent.  Be careful out here though, a lot of people get in trouble.  There are many bars to choose from.  My favorite would be "Georges" it's the only country bar we have here.  There is Buffalo's and Rock city (they play mostly rock and metal).  Budwisers is a Kareoke spot.  Malts plays some oldies and ...

This trip was totally out of the blue, whilst on my Working Holiday Visa in New Zealand, I needed to get away from windy Wellington so I chose this strange combination. I was spoilt with beautiful deserted Motu in the South Pacific and amazed at the Japanese culture, its a Country like no other I've ever witnessed, a place I fell in love with and hope to return very soon.

Nagoya was pretty cool.  But INSANELY HOT.  It was almost unbearable.  We head over to Nagoya Castle.  It was kinda pointless.  The outside looked really cool though.  However, we had to walk up a lot of stairs to go to this observation deck, which was ok.  The cool thing about Nagoya was the freaking SUMO WRESTLING!So the Sumo wrestling match was going on across the street from the Nagoya Castle.  Sumo matches go on all day, and we caught the last two ...
