Ahu Ura-Uranga Te Mahina Nov 05, 2013
Ura-Uranga Te Mahina is another large Ahu on the coastal road, with few Moais face down in the dirt. I was told that they were toppled down during the times of the statue toppling era some two centuries ago. Remains of the Ahu look pretty long so there was probably many more Moais standing here. Few were probably toppled down the cliff in the water of the small bay. Facing the water there is a small basalt wall, ahu is not restored but it is very interesting to see the forms peaking out of the grass that took over. Few Moais that are still there are pretty badly damaged and I am not sure that this place has potential of being restored.
