Ahu A Kivi Nov 06, 2013
A Kivi is the only Ahu that has Moais looking towards the sea. All other statues on the island were looking towards the inland. There is a nice hike to this place from Hanga Roa, it goes around the small hills, through some native tree and it follows the small dirt road. It is located on the slopes of the Terevaka volcano couple kilometers from the village. Ahu doubles for a celestial observatory and statues face exactly towards the sunset during the equinox. There is seven statues and they are fairly the same size and very well preserved. It is very nice sunset spot, but any time is good time to go to this place.
