Ahmedabad was called Manchester of India thanks to large number of textile mills. It is a large business city with very good roads, rail and flight connectivity. Only dry State in India and alcohol consumption prohibited except with tourist/medical permit from Govt.
Navratri (nine days) before Dusehra and 14 January Uttarayan (Kite Flying) are big festivals here. Top educational institutions like IIM, NID, CEPT University are in this city. Head quarter to Adani, Nirma, Arvind business houses and big presence of Reliance, Tata, ONGC corporates. Sabarmati River front and Kankaria lake draw big crowds. Vegetarian food is more popular and is not a costly city. People prefer to save more (in Fixed deposits, stocks, land & buildings) for appreciation rather than spend on luxuries and are not spend thrift.
State Capital Gandhinagar is 20 km from city.
