Aguluz Homestay

You have two options for your visit to Donsol: stay at the simple resorts on the beach near the whale-shark visitor centre; or stay in the town. Having tried both, I recommend you stay in the town, at Aguluz homestay. In a beautiful home are several comfortable bedrooms, from small fan twin to large family room with a/c, cable TV & shower room. Shower rooms are large modern and clean. Decide what you'd like to eat at any time of day and it will be bought and cooked for you - as much as you can eat at much cheaper cost than the local restaurants. Free internet access. Central for shops and local interest. 15 pesos per person in a tricycle to the visitor centre (makes a nice walk back, about 20 minutes).

No children live in the house, there can be street noise from 6am: but you will want to be up very early anyway as the best time to get the boats is 7:30 (the sea is calm in the early morning which makes the spotting of the whale-shark's shadow underwater more likely to be successful. Don't bother going on a boat if it is raining or the sea is very rough. Stay at least 2 nights - you only have a 50-80% likelihood of seeing a whale-shark any given day: if you do see one the first day you WILL want to go and see it again! Amazing.
