Agra Colombo Reviews
Indian fine dining restaurant with lounge bar (Shimmer) Jan 21, 2011
Agra is a fine dining restaurant in Colombo, Sri Lanka, serving North Indian food (Curry) and barbecues (Tikka) combined with fantastic service and ambiance.
Marketed as a fine dining restaurant and considered an exclusive Indian dining restaurant by the locals, this establishment is a rare combination of excellent food, service and entertainment.
The main dining area in the restaurant plays recorded ethnic Indian music and on weekends the music is played live by an ethnic Indian band. Do not expect pop music, rather something similar to Ravi Shaker's music (Nora Jone's dad).
A lounge bar, called Shimmer, is an impressive bonus when you visit the Agra. Shimmer is located outside (and behind the restaurant bar) within a cosy and romantic environment with big divan benches covered with deceptively comfortable cushions - that you can spend hours on - enjoying a nice conversation with your partner. Buddha Bar would be a close comparison.
A night out at the Agra is a must if you are entertaining friends or would like to enjoy a sumptuous meal on a date. The chef accepts special requests off the menu as well as modifications to the menu such as removal of certain ingredients or spices (so the dishes are not typically Indian spicy/ hot). The chicken tikka with stuffed cottage cheese is so tender and juicy, it will melt in your mouth.
The bartenders make amazing cocktails too and the prices are competitive to most 5 star restaurants in Colombo. This is not an economical restaurant for those on a budget, but is certainly worth the treat. Expect to pay about 100 US$ for meal and drinks for two.
