It is possible to travel to Afghanistan, but independent travel is still not advised. Hiring a reputable company to provide you a private tour is one option, but can be pricey. Another option is to join a small group tour with the the tour company. There are several companies that are operating in Afghanistan at the time, but I personally feel that the company I manage (Great Game Travel) provides the best security and the best trained guides.
