I had the opportunity to see a country that is still hostile while deploying there as an Expeditionary Unit in the Marine infantry. It was the dead of winter, and was absolutely freezing in a campaign we were conducting in the mountains. The combination of snow, wind, and sun in the mountains can make you go snow blind without eye protection. Make sure you wear lots of warm clothing, bring all your own supplies, and have at least an armed platoon of marines with you for protection. LOL!

I was there in winter 2005 for teaching a group of people basic concepts in IT. it was a mission from an International Union in cooperation with UNDP in Afghanistan. There was COLD, really about -20 at nights.
