Aeolic Star Motel Kalambaka Reviews
Interesting motel with balcony that moved me.... Mar 15, 2010
After we drove for several hours we were happy to pull into Kalambaka. The Kalambaka area is where the famous monasteries are built at the top of steep mountains. We found what we believed was the city center and began to look for a motel. David checked with a motel and found they had two rooms for us. He got their “deluxe” apartment for us.
Our room was really interesting. It was the top floor and had a huge balcony. The balcony had a great view of the piazza below. There was a circle with a fountain and many small shops and restaurants surrounding the piazza. We both walked out onto the balcony and I could feel it flex slightly. I retreated to the room and let David know I wouldn’t be hanging out on it while we were there.
The ceiling was natural wood strips joined in a really interesting pattern with many alcoves. The floor was also natural wood. There was sort of a nautical theme with a ships wheel on the wall above the bed. We couldn’t quite figure out why it was there but it somehow fit. There were bedspeads that didn’t seem to have much to do with the rest of the room. But they were cheery and clean and warm. It was really a large room and even had a large sofa.
David’s absolute favorite thing was the bathtub…. It was unique shaped and blue…. Of course he couldn’t use it as he’s too tall to fold himself into it…. (although I would have loved to see him try… LOL….) My favorite thing was the view although I contented myself with taking it in from the balcony doors.
The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We loved the night time view from the room…… really a nice old fashioned piazza below us. Great to see the people and the action below us. In the little neighborhood we found a nice restaurant and enjoyed a great meal. Directly below the motel was a wonderful bakery. We loved looking in the window and seeing the goods. There was an amazing loaf of bread three or four feet long…plus the many pastries. Our then future son-in-law is a pastry chef so we always try to take pictures of bakery items. (Tara and Robert are married now....)
We liked this motel and would recommend it. It was clean and the people were quite friendly. It was well placed for looking at the Meteora monasteries the next day.
