Adventurer's Inn Dushanbe Reviews
The most impossible to find hostel in the world Jul 03, 2010
This is a decent, but expensive, choice in a quiet residential area in northern Dushanbe, just behind the Varzob bazaar.
Rooms come with a fan and shared facilities, which are spacious and clean. For this they charge a whopping $ 20 per person, though this includes breakfast and wi-fi. Camping is also possible for $10 per person, including breakfast.
Poor value, but there is little choice in Dushanbe (which the owners of the Adventurer's Inn know all too well).
The place is very hard to find. The Lonely Planet's description on how to find this place is hopeless, so let me attempt to do a better job. The following description is how to walk there:
First locate the Varzob bazaar. In the residential area immediately behind the Varzob bazaar are several embassies. One of the easiest to find is the German embassy (look for a big eagle on the wall). In a dead-end street leading off the German Embassy you will find the American residence for embassy staff. Opposite the entrance is a bridge over a pipeline, cross this bridge and walk straight ahead into the street. After about 500 metres you will see a faded sign for the Adventurer's Inn (formerly Traveller's Inn) on a wall on the left hand side. The hostel is inside this wall, so knock on the porch to see if anyone opens.
To reach this place by car is almost worse: you have to drive past the Varzob bazaar and take the first right. Then cross the pipeline and take the first left. You are now in a maze of residential streets and the hostel should be the second left and then the first right. Don't feel embarrassed to ask around, the locals seem pretty used to pointing lost tourists into the right direction.
