I love this place! Jul 12, 2011
I am a nerd in every way possible so when I realized Chicago had a planetarium I raced right over. When I moved here I got the yearly membership. I'll be honest, it's more towards kids, however, it's highly educational for the young and old. It's not jam packed with things like the other museum, yet it has a little of everything. The shows are pretty cool. Sometimes at dusk/night people will have there telescopes outside and you can get a look at whatever they have focused on. Or check out the Doane Observatory in the back but it's only open for special events.

For those 21 and over check out Adler After Dark. It happens on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Drinks, music, appetizers and space...what more could you ask for? The Doane Observatory is open for every Adler After Dark.

Also as a side note...outside of the planetarium there is a spectacular view of the city. If anything that is a must see.

In short, it's just a lot of fun if you are into Astronomy and space. If not, it has a nice view of the lake and the city. :)

I was expecting more! Apr 25, 2011
I was looking forward to going to the planetarium.... but I was dissapointed and think I wasted a city pass ticket.

There just didn't seem to be much there and I think its more for kids than adults , the theatre is closed until summer so maybe it would have been better if that was open . I walked round had a coffee and panini ( cafe was cheep ) and then left . I do think its worth a visit if taking kids.

All in my space Apr 05, 2011
Did you think I was getting at something personal? Well it may be if you care about this world we live in called earth. Come check this out whenever your in chicago. I took my nana (grandmother for others), and she enjoyed it too. It makes you think, but thank God for what I believe can't shake the truth. It sounded good, even had a cool show but bottom line you'll find cosmic collisions, kids shows, exhibits, astronomy research, shows like universe, stars, and more. Ages were from kids to adults. Handicap were accommodated too and they even have an food cafe to order from their selection. I recommend the planetarium any day and I know I will visit again soon one day. Not to mention going at night is the best cause you will see chicago at its best.

Under-rated and overlooked! Aug 23, 2010
I often forget about the Adler Planetarium because it is often overshadowed by some of the bigger museums in the area.

I recently had a chance to go visit for one of their evening events (check out their website for dates). I had forgot how many unique things there are to see and do there! We saw all the shows which were fun and educational (wow!). On of the shows is what stars and/or planets you would see from Chicago, on the day you are there, if there were no light pollution! We went to the research room (or something like that) and got to see the latest pictures of star clusters and such. Very interesting.

As an added bonus, if you go in the evening you get a great view of the city!
learning is fun!
