Adelaide Nightlife - pubs and clubs Sep 06, 2010
Update for 2010. Completely forgot that I wrote this, haha and about Travbuddy. LOL
Here are some of the best places to go in Adelaide, because face it theres not much to do here but get blotto.
Best to head to Waymouth Street's Grace Emily in town or the Casino on North Terrace.
Tuesday head to the Edinburgh Hotel, Mitcham which is a 15 minute cab ride from town, its just a pub but they have cheap drinks and its the busiest place in Adelaide on a tuesday, los of uni kids as its university night.
Wednesday night there is basically only one place to be, Flashdance at HQ (Adelaide's Superclub, no longer owned by bikies). This is one of the best experiences and age is no barrier because the music is 60's right through to today. They also have a r'n'b room but stick to the main room its a bunch of fun.
If a club isnt your thing, head to Casablabla on Leigh street for multicultural tapas and flaminco dancing. Or best pubs would be down the bay at Glenelg. Jetty Bar is pretty good.
The Goodwood hotel, Goodwood also has ladies night, cheap drinks for most of the night and a really awesome beer garden.
Thursday night is for cheap drinks and ladies night. In town definitely check out PJ Obriens for free vodka for ladies 9-10 and cheap drinks most of the night for us gals. Its pretty much a pick up place for guys who want drunk chicks as well! Also good is the Alma Tavern, a 10 minute cab ride from town and it is owned by two AFL players offering good music and cheap drinks.
Friday night if your after a younger crowd head to The Victoria Hotel about a 20 minute cab ride from the city, its full of young blood but its good if you want to dance. Also a younger crowd but definitely the liveliest place in Adelaide is the Rammsgate Hotel in Henley Square. Its about 30 minute cab ride from Town but its definitely worth it if your after popular people. Note to the girls, this place is extremely bitchy and snobby so hold your own.
Casablabla rocks on a Friday night, both straight after work and late into the night, just make sure you get in before 10, before a $10 cover charge. Usually if your a nice lookin chick, Moses the boucher will let you in for free! hes awesome!
In town check out Rocket bar on Hindley Street if your after live alternative music and funky house music.
Swish on North Terrace is my favourite place to go to on a Friday night, for 90's music and lots of dancing. Also the Duke of York on Currie street is really good aswell on Friday for after work drinks.
Saturday nights are definitely the big night in A*Town. Anywhere in town is good. Adelaide city is split (nightlife wise) into West and East. The best in the West is definitely the Vodka bar (a special champagne lounge for ladies), Savvy for funky dance music and the Marble Bar for uber cool people. If your a little more pubby than clubby check out the Colnel Light Hotel for cheap early drinks and the Woolshed on Hindley St for country folk but a good time.
East is definitely reserved for Rundle Street pubs where the best places to dance is definitely The Stag at the end of Rundle Street. The best chill out pubs for the guys are the Austral and the Exeter ( a little more grungy). If your partial to cocktails check out Fumo Blu on Rundle thats a really nice place, then head next door if your after house and trance to Sugar. The Botanic at the corner of East Terrace and North Terrace is also an awesome place, which is extremely random because its both a cocktail bar but has pool tables and rocking music!
* Avoid places that charge on sat night, usually its really not worth it. If you want a night of no cover charges North Adelaide is a really good area for that. The Archer goes off, with both dance floors upstairs and downstairs. The Oxford is awesome too for chill out drinks and footy players.
Definitely the most popular place if the Grand Bar and Pier Hotel in Glenelg. Most recently, the Sunset bar has opened up aswell which is pretty damn good. However do expect a really intense dress standard. If the line up to the Grand is too long, follow the crowd to the Pier. Im more partial to the Pier because its less crowded and better bar staff.
Dont use this as an ultimate guide, its just my experience over the last 5 years living here and im sure you all like different things. But this is just a guideline if your travelling over here!
