The name Adare is derived from Ath Dara, meaning 'the ford of the oak'.
The village's streets are lined with original thatched cottages survived for hundreds of years. Renowned as Ireland's prettiest village, Adare is designated as a Heritage Town by the Irish Government. It is a major tourist destination with many tours of Ireland stopping off here. The local heritage centre gives a deep insight into the history of the village and also hosts a number of craft shops and a restaurant. Adare is a very popular wedding and conference venue and has recently become a major golf destination ho sting the Irish Open at the Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort. Located in the heart of County Limerick just 15 minutes south of Limerick City on the N21, and 40 minutes from Shannon airport, Adare is the gateway to the southwest of Ireland.

I guess there is this thing about being a June bride for girls. I don't know, I'm a typical guy and really don't pay attention to these kinds of thing. Naturally there was no tour event planned for today, just one very nice wedding. I almost even cried....but I didn't. So enjoy the pictures.

Quick stop off in Adare and Bunratty for some more touristy things. Bunratty Castle is historical site, complete with people dressed in period clothing and re-enactments of daily life from way back when.(Again, I apologize for the lack of great explanation involved in these entries, I honestly can't remember much from seven years ago...)

I had requested that we go to the village of Adare. Claimed to be Ireland's prettiest village, it is nestled in the wooded valley of the River Maigue. Although, in my humble opinion, it is probably only one of a hundred "pretty villages", it was still worth the stop. Thirty five days covering ten countries in Europe and the U.K.
I took 1900 pictures, many of which can be seen here. We had two 15 day tours through Brendan Tours, with a couple of extra days in London.
