Adams Morgan Overview

Adams Morgan spans from 18th Street NW between Florida Ave and Columbia Road and and Columbia Road between 16th Street and Wyoming Avenue, NW. It is supposed to have been named after the District's first segregated schools (Thomas P. Morgan ES for black students and John Quincy Adams for white students) were desegregated-this fused the culturally diverse neighborhoods we now know as Adams Morgan.

For locals, Adams Morgan is a thriving center of culture, food, festivals, and a night time scene that blocks traffic for many hours. There is such a variety of restaurants, a two-week visit wouldn't be enough time for a tourist to have dinner in all the cuisines in Adams Morgan.

There are salsa lessons, street fairs, movie rentals, themed bars and gastronomic experiences to be had. Parking is difficult and there is no metro to Adams Morgan. Buses service the area and cabs are popular as parking restrictions are quite tight.

Surrounding areas include the National Zoo, U street and Dupont Circle.
