Acapulco Divers

Arriving on a cruise ship in Acapulco the most recommended activity we were told to do was see the cliff diving. Our bus driver/tour guide warned us of the souvenir sellers at the spot and that they get up in your face and sometimes grab your arm trying to sell you the usual tourist stuff!!

To get a good view of the diving you have to go half way down the steps. You can get closer but if you want but it seemed you got better shots when only to talk photos half way down. There are also restaurants that overlook the cliffs where you can sit with a drink and watch.

The divers who are mostly kids run down the steps, jump in the water and swim across to the other side before climbing up the cliff to various jumping spots. Each diver takes their turn with the younger kids jumping at lower heights. Any cliff diving is dangerous but there has been diving at this spot for years. The last diver will jump the from the very top of the cliff and before jumping you will see him pray.

When we were there the whole show was over in 10 minutes. The divers usually will stand at the top of the stairs hoping for tips. You then have to push your way back through the sellers to your tour bus.

This was an OK activity but not sure I would go out of my way to see it again. Though later I heard they also jump at night holding torches and that it is better show to attend.
