Ice, Ice, Baby Apr 01, 2016
Scandinavia isn’t the warmest corner of the world. Winters here are usually frosty and ruthless. But some people, me including, prefer frost more than a melting, heat wave! Stockholm, the gem of Scandinavia, is located on flat terrain. It can’t guarantee a few meters layer of snow and typical winter activities, but it has ice! You can find ice all year round in the center of the city, in one of its many bars. The Absolut Ice bar in Stockholm takes Scandinavian winter to another level.

The ice bar, located in the Nordic C Hotel, is exactly what the name implies; a bar featuring nothing but drinks made with Absolut vodka, in a barroom where everything, literally everything, is made of ice. And really mean eeeeeeeverything! From the bar itself to the walls and even the drinking glasses. Is it cold in there? Of course it is! Inside the temperature is not higher than -5°C all year round, so nothing will melt. The Absolut Icebar is the world’s first permanent ice bar. The entire interior is made from 100% pure, clear ice transported from the Torne River in Swedish Lapland. Each spring, a total of 6,000 tons of ice is harvested from northern Sweden, from a place located 200 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, where there is virtually no pollution. The owners of the bar re-do the decor, in the bar from time to time, so the ice sculptures and such vary and never get boring.

To get to the bar you need to walk through the airlock. The doors open and close automatically. The airlock itself bodes an amazing adventure, and the real fun starts behind its doors!

Before visiting the bar you should dress well. It is cold, but you can expect that from a place where the temperature is never, absolutely never, above zero. Before entering the bar you get some absolutely un-stylish and un-trendy clothes! You get a blue batman cape with a tiny bit of fluff around the hood, and warm gloves that look like they were taken from an Eskimo. Everyone looks fat and not very sexy in this amazing outfit, but who cares, it is at least warm.

The Absolut Icebar is not only a place where you walk in and have a drink. It is sort of a theme park! Everything in the bar, from the seating area, tables, to the art work and the drinking glasses, is made from crystal-clear ice. No joke! The ice has some cracks and marble-like veils that give it a unique character.

The bar is a popular attraction, so you should book your 45 minutes long visit in advance. It runs until 1am at night so it is better to make sure you go there at the right time, as they don’t keep your reservation more than 5 minutes. The visit to the bar isn’t the cheapest experience in Scandinavia, but then, what is cheap in Scandinavia? The Abosult Bar isn’t the place where you go to party down. It is an interesting experience to have while in Sweden. It is a priceless experience that unfortunately has a high price. The entrance fee will buy you your first drink, refills are half-price, provided that you kept your glass, which can be used again.

The drinks are served in ice-cubes. You can get drinks with or without alcohol. The ones without are just juice! The ice glasses are quite small. Better not to expect a lot of alcohol. But the fun of this experience is in going in, not the drinking.

The Absolut Icebar is the highest ranked among Swedes tourist traps in Stockholm, but still, in my opinion, it is a must stop!

Maybe on one of chilly nights in Stockholm you might fancy a little, colorful drink served in a cold, icy glass to keep you warm?

ABSOLUT ICEBAR, Stockholm Dec 16, 2009
We were invited to experience the ABSOLUT ICEBAR that apparently is the world’s first permanent ice bar. Inside the temperature is -5°C all year round and the entire interior including the glasses, is made from 100% pure clear ice from the Torne River in Swedish Lapland.

It is not just a place where you walk in; it is like a theme park! You are buying an entrance that includes an Absolut Vodka cocktail served in an ice glass, a blue batman cape and warm gloves. One thing is that getting inside is almost a nightmare of different prices;

• If you pre-book the visit online in advance you have to pay 17 € per person.

• If you book by telephone 18 € per person.

• If you just Drop-in 19,50 € per person.

• If you are a guests staying at Nordic Sea Hotel only 15 € per person.

• Entrance with alcohol-free cocktail 12,50 € per person.

• Last if you re-use your glass after your first cocktail, the refill is only 9,50 €.

Well inside it was quite fun to try; the bar was nice and we had an experience out of it. We all had loads of fun staying in the cold with our ice glasses.

The bar was actually inaugurated in 2002, but the story about ice bars started way back in 1993 when the first original icebar was built in Jukkasjärvi.

Everything in the bar, from the seating area to the art works and the drinking glasses, is made from crystal-clear ice. Each spring, a total of 6,000 tons of ice is harvested from the Torne River, which is located 200 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, where there is virtually no pollution. The ice builds up gradually during the long, arctic winter, producing crystal-clear ice with occasional cracks and marble-like veils that give it a unique character.

A Must Go Place in Stockholm Dec 10, 2009
Although ice Hotel in Kiruna is world-wide famous, Ice bar in stockholm is still a place to go at night. Especially for the 1st-time visitor to stockholm. Different night life experience. The ticket includs a drink + 40 minuites in the bar. 120kr for non-alcohole, 195kr for alcohole.

The Ice Bar is a bar based on the famed Ice Hotel in northern Sweden. The artificial bar is easier to reach than the real deal though, as it is situated within the Nordic Sea Hotel in central Stockholm.

Inside the temperature is a constant -5ºC, so patrons will get a puffy coat to wear in order to stay warm.

Inside everything is made of ice, the bar, the decorations, the furniture, the TV and the glasses you drink your (Vodka based) cocktails out.

The entrance fee will buy you your first drink, refills are half-price, provided that you maintain your glass.

It is expensive, especially considering the fact that this is just a novelty place where you won't spend more than 30 minutes, but still it is worth the hefty entrance fee just for the experience.

A totally new experience May 29, 2008
If you visit Stockholm, the Ice Bar is a MUST stop! It runs until 1am at night but make sure you go there with time, as it is always quite busy. The temperature in the bar is -5 degrees celsius, so nothing melts. In order to get in, they give you a thick jacket with globes so you don´t freeze!

You can get drinks with or without alcohol. The glases are made of ice and they are quite small, so don´t bother to get a drink with alcohol! just get a non alcoholic drink, as the fun of it is going in, not to drink...

It is not very expensive, If I remember well, the cover plus a drink was like 200 coronas, which is around 20 euros. Take your camera with you, it will be an unforgattable experience!

I think this is the coolest tourist trap in Stockholm! It's as it says - a bar made from ICE! it's really cool.

This place is settled in the entrance of some hotel and it's a room with a constant-5 degrees celsius. Outside of the room ofcourse there's concrete and glass (so you could see inside), but inside the walls are made from ice cubes, the bar itself is made from ice cubes, the tables are ice, there are ice statues and the really cool thing - you drink from ice cups!!!

To get inside you need (usually) to stand in some queue, and when your time is up you get this space suit to wear on against the cold (but do come with long pants and shoes). The suit comes with a set of gloves so it won't be cold to drink from the cups. Inside the bar there are 2 cute bartenders, both look so swedish, and they serve you vodka drinks in many colors inside the ice cups.

The pricing is for the drinks actually, something like 150 SEK (around 20$) for getting inside and getting a drink, and refill is for 85 SEK (around 11$).

The room can fill something like 30 people, and you actually can't sit inside so people come have their drink and go.

As I said in the beginning - this is a really nice tourist trap ! enjoy it !!! :)
