Sao Paulo is the business and culutral capital of Brazil.
It´s also the bisggest city of Brazil, and the 3rd biggest city in the world (I´m not sure if it has changed or not). Sao Paulo has a different standart from the other cities... It concentrates the best univerities, hospitals, cinemas, concert places, biggest companies, etc... IT´s not a very touristic place if you compare it with any other place in Brazil though... But, in Sao Paulo, if you have money, you will ALWAYS have something to do... Concerts, arts, museums, parks, zoos, events... There are cultural events that happens only in here... For exemplo: one month ago we had an special event in the center of Sao Paulo called "Virada Cultural". In each street there was a different kind of show and music, theater, circus, everything... It was beautiful... You could see many tribes and groups mixed, enjoying and respecting the differences... The subways were ready 24 hours just to serve people for the festival... Well, last weekend we had also the gay parade... 3 million people around the main avenue... If you come to Sao Paulo only for a few days, you should visit: the center/ downtown (beatifull historic buildings, Cathedral, Municipal Theater), Pinacoteca (beautifful museum), Ibirapuera Park you find nature and arts), Palycenter or Hopi Hari (Park with skycoasters, ect), Paulista Avenue (to see how many different people you see in a square meter, MASP), NIght life on Vila Olimpia, Vila Madalena (any day of the week to listen to any kind of music you wish... and stay awake for 24 hours... ) what else??? I´ll remeber and I´ll complete the list... I have also to say, unfortunatelly, that SP is not the safest place in the world. So, keep your eyes open, don´t show expensive itens everywhere (like cameras...), stay where there are people around... During the day its safer... at night, don´t walk alone in too quite places, dependind on where you stay... Ah, last thing, Sao Paulo north coast is one of the most beautifull places in Brazil... But that´s subject for another review... Bye! |

For unlike the others in the top like New York and Tokyo it does not seem to get the sort of publicity that those cities do. This, as I will discuss later, may be due to the fact that Sao Paulo is not really on the global tourists circuit.
I have never thought of Sao Paulo as one of the “mega-cities”, but found that with at least… Sao Paulo (Brazil): My overall observations and thoughts |
