Abel Tasman National Park (established in 1942) is renowned for its golden beaches, sculptured granite cliffs, and world-famous Abel Tasman Coast Track. It also has a mild climate and is a good place to visit at any time of the year.

At 22,530 hectares Abel Tasman is New Zealand's smallest national park. It is located at the top of the South Island; the nearest towns are Motueka, Takaka and Kaiteriteri.
Starting point for the track is Marahau on the road just past Kaiteriteri.

So we packed up about 10am, taking in the morning air. A bit chilly but gorgeous weather once again. We gave our food to the English girls and a European couple whose food had been stolen by a possum. Something we found really funny actually. The first time we came here we had a cheeky possum trying to steal ours aswell, unfortunely these tourists didn't realise we had cheeky critters around here and left their food at the top of their packs - OUTSIDE their tent completely and the possum snuc...

We had a hard, and rather chilly night - our own fault since we didn't bring enough warm blankets and a pack to fit them in! Nevermind though, leasson learnt.We awoke last night to the rustling of bags, we had put our bag in the other part of the tent, not in the tent itself, but in another enclosure (for lack of a better word). I was too scared to zip the door open, so Nathan did and there was a possum taking off with our bread. Cheeky thing. Possums in New Zealand are pests. They might look...

Kayaking!

2nd day on the south island. Adrian and I had planned to do some kayaking (Charlene and Andrea were lazy!). We woke up early and the guy from the kayaking company (i can't remember this name) fetched us from the backpackers at 8am in the morning to bring us to a beautiful, secluded beach.
