So we packed up about 10am, taking in the morning air. A bit chilly but gorgeous weather once again. We gave our food to the English girls and a European couple whose food had been stolen by a possum. Something we found really funny actually. The first time we came here we had a cheeky possum trying to steal ours aswell, unfortunely these tourists didn't realise we had cheeky critters around here and left their food at the top of their packs - OUTSIDE their tent completely and the possum snuc...

We had a hard, and rather chilly night - our own fault since we didn't bring enough warm blankets and a pack to fit them in! Nevermind though, leasson learnt. We awoke last night to the rustling of bags, we had put our bag in the other part of the tent, not in the tent itself, but in another enclosure (for lack of a better word). I was too scared to zip the door open, so Nathan did and there was a possum taking off with our bread. Cheeky thing. Possums in New Zealand are pests. They might look...

2nd day on the south island. Adrian and I had planned to do some kayaking (Charlene and Andrea were lazy!). We woke up early and the guy from the kayaking company (i can't remember this name) fetched us from the backpackers at 8am in the morning to bring us to a beautiful, secluded beach.
By then, I was freezing to my toes because we had put on the wetsuit and hence, weren't wearing any other warm clothings. We carried the kayaks off the van, listened to the guy givi...

I had the amazing opportunity to study a semester abroad at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand. From Feb. 24 until July 3, 2005. During that time I traveled all over it and got hands on experience on its amazing culture and sightings. It's like a hidden paradise!!! It has everything you can possibly want, from amazing outdoors activities to great night life. Enjoy!!

Just had a great couple of days in Abel Tasman National Park, North of the South Island. We did the short drive up from Nelson yesterday morning, checked into our great, but slightly crazy accomodation in Marahau and spent the afteroon taking a long (for us!) 4 hour -return walk up the coastal track right at the start of the national park. The walk involved tramping through tropical bush and finding one idylic bay after another! Its mad though you do start getting a bit blase seeing amazin...

Actually, I am not quite sure what to write about Abel Tasman. It's just stunning and I was speechless (which doesn't happen really often, if you know me...!!!) ! I have never seen golden beaches in my life before. Tiny gold leaves, inseperably mixed with sand, reflect beautifully in the sun. Turquoise water and an amazing blue sky round off a picture you may only can dream about. But this place is real! You can glide with your hands through warm sand, taste the salty water on your tongue, fe...

So off we went on our first NZ tramp - 5 days along the coastal track of the gorgeous Abel Tasman. The first 2 days were beautiful, sunny and clear. The track took us through rainforest and then alongside the stunning coastline. White sandy beaches with clear turquoise waters surrounded by deep green jungle type stuff. Very Costa Rica.
The second night it started to rain and didn't stop all night. At 2am we were awoken by a few squeaks and some shuffling of our food...

My traveling ways continue to give me mad experience points. Although the changes are subtle, the longer I keep this up the more I will grow.
This blog is basically my life in 2007.

Most people got up early to go kayaking or sailing today but since I have done both I was looking for something different. So I booked on an hour's horse-ride since I cannot remember ever getting on a horse. When I walked down to the trekking place I mentioned early that I didn't have much to do that day so the fella there started by putting on an old 45 of 'Waltzing Matilda' by Slim Dusty, and the tone and style of the music seems to set the atmosphere for riding a horse through the sunny mo...

To the end of the trail we go. The days were short and the nights were long or at least it felt that way when there wasn’t any light after the sunset. Karina and Claudia (my two Chilean traveling buddies) were great company although a lot of the time we walked in silence or they spoke in Spanish to one another. They were still a bit limited in what they could say in English so hand gestures were a very import key in communicating. On our last day as we left the Bark Bay hut on our fin...
