Great Beatles Festival Feb 04, 2011
Every year over the Memorial Day weekend, Louisville plays host to one of the largest Beatles festivals in the world. For five days, the park next to the Galt House is turned into a festival grounds, complete with four outdoor music stages (lawn, fountain, river, and pool), as well as some indoor concerts in the various rooms in the Galt House hotel. At this festival, you can see Beatles tribute and cover bands that have come to this festival from around the world.

It is a little expensive to get into the festival; however, the festival runs from 12 noon until late at night, and you can spend hours upon hours listening to Beatles music.

Unfortunately, at a Beatles festival, not all of the music is the Beatles. Some of the groups will play non-Beatles music and music that doesn't have anything to do with the Beatles whatsoever, which does diminish the festival a bit. And then the final day of the festival, Memorial Day, it turns out to be just another music festival, labeled "summer of love" where it is more of an "oldies" music festival rather than a Beatles festival.

I have been to this event as well as to Beatlefest. AROTR in D.C. is much easier to get a direct flight to for travelers not wanting the hassle of plane changes and delays. Due to it being a major hub it's also somewhat cheaper.

I am actually glad the music gets mixed up a bit as though I am a die hard Beatle's fun to have other music as well at this festival. I do not think it detracts at all.

I wish AROTR would move from Galt House though. It is quite run down as far as the rooms go, especially if you book a suite. However if you fly in for this you won't spend much time in the room. The after hours sing a longs at all these events AROTR and Beatlefest are the most fun!! It's really a blast all in all. Event is suitable for everyone!
