Abbey Cottage B&B Saint Andrews Reviews
Local touch with atmosphere Jun 23, 2008
Abbey Cottage in St Andrews has an excellent location. It is just five minutes walk from the harbour, five minutes walk from the Cathedral ruins and only ten minutes to the city centre. The prices are a bit below average in the town.
The building is very old, if I heard right, parts of it from the 18th centurary and it has a very local Scottish touch. The wall in the back is the same as the city wall dated very old. The dining room, where breakfast is served, is decorated like an old Scottish lounge. It has a lot of atmosphere, and so has all the building.
We had a double and it was rather small and simple. You had to be well organised to get your packings in place. Our room was not ensuite but the bathroom was just for us, though very simple.
Breakfast was served in time and was very good. All what you expected for a Scottish breakfast was there.
The owner is quite anonymous and if you like not to speak and have contact with the owner, that is a perfect place to stay. But if you want good hints and directions for activities, try to find another place.
Having said that, I got aquinted with the dog in the house who was very nice. The garden framed the old building in a beautiful way and you could enjoy many flowers, chicken strolling around, and some pieces of art here and there. I imagine that the owner is some kind of an artist.
A very special B&B that I warmly can recommend.
