Aachener Weiher Biergarten Cologne Reviews
a typical beer garden? Aug 26, 2011
The Aachener Weiher Biergarten is located in a beautiful city park in Cologne, near the square lake. The beer garden is an outdoor garden with plenty of tables, booths, and chairs under umbrellas or out in the open. As it was lightly raining, we were happy to find a table under an umbrella.
We were here with a very large group of people (500-1000?). We followed the crowd. Some people were getting served at the table. We followed the group right to the kitchen counter. The menu is written on a chalk board above the counter. You order at the counter, wait for the food to be prepared, then pay before you walk away. It was very busy back here. The food was very reasonably priced, even cheap. I ordered lasagne, which came with a mixed green salad, for 7 Euros.
There was a little "bar" with bottled beer and draft beer out near our table. We tried a few different beers, including Kölsch - the locally brewed beer. I read that Kölsch can only be legally made in and very near to Cologne. Glad we tried some while we were here!
The food was pretty good and the price was definitely good. The biergarten has a beautiful setting with lots of patio furniture, trees, and view of the lake. I don't know what it is like when it is not crazy busy, but the food and drinks were good for us. If you are in the area, stop on by, but I'm sure there are many beer gardens spread around this city.
