APADA Hotel SENGKANG Reviews
For its princely cockroaches! Sep 21, 2009
As we did not want to drive 8 hours in a day between Makassar in South Sulawesi and the Toraja land(we drove finally 9 hours and half in the 2 days for 320 km), on our return drive we had a stopover in Sengkang,a busy market town famous for its lake(Tempe)with floating houses, its hand woven silk industry. It was the capital of a former Bugis kingdom with 2 "recommended" hotels:the Pondok Eka(housing numerous cockroaches according to a French site) and the Apada where many tours stop.
We stayed in the former cottage of the last Buginese princess, now called Hotel Apada and run by her nephew.
It is a very simple accomodation:we had one of the best? rooms with AC,TV,cold water only and 3 huge cockroaches and a cute young one. After a short fight and a profuse spraying,we were on our own.Don't tell my wife the nature of these bugs, she still believes that they were a kind of beetle!
If u have sheets, bring them cos their are too narrow and don't cover the bed.
We had a basic continental breakfast, the restaurant was closed.
Don't check your alarm-clock cos the mosque is very close( we only had its loudspeaker from 0430 to 0500)
rates between 20 to 30 Usd,roaches included.
