ANA Rapu Guest house Easter Island Reviews
DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!! Jan 07, 2010
We thought we had picked a good place to stay at whilst visiting Easter Island but unfortunately this was not so. We were picked up from the airport and given a beautiful flower lay which had our hopes up high!
We were not that far from the airport only a short 2min drive. Once we reached the guest house we were asked to sign in and then we would be shown where everything was. Once this was done we were taken to our room and then our chaffeur disappeared.
We had to hunt down the kitchen ourselves which was tiny and dirty! The kitchen is meant to cater for 18 rooms which would be a major problem if everyone wanted to cook at the same time because of its small size. During our stay here the bin was not emptied at all!! The kitchen smelt like it had not been cleaned for a long time.
Our room had a private bathroom with no hot water. The bathroom sink & mirror were not bolted to the wall. There was no footpath to our room only grass and stones which was a big problem when the stray dogs kept on shitting outside our door. The beds were not the best either. There was also no covered walkways to the kitchen and rooms which wouldn´t usually be a problem but it rained the whole entire time we stayed at the island, which the locals noted that this was quite unusual so just incase take a raincoat, its not cold just wet.
The breakfast was a joke. It was from 9-10am only. You got a choice of coffee or tea accompanied with a cold pancake, one piece of stale bread which you could have with apricot jam. If you were early for breakfast you got a slice of papaya which wasn`t replaced once it was all gone. Not a good way to start the day!
On our 2nd night we had a few drinks with 8 other guests in the kitchen (as it does not have a lounge that the guests could use as this is joined onto the owners living quarters). At 11pm (note that daylight ends at 10pm) the owner said we were too loud and we needed to ¨tone it down & we were to leave the kitchen by 12am¨, so we shut the door and windows, and dropped our lauging to small giggles and jibes. At 11.30pm the owner returned & kicked us out of the kitchen and sent us in the pouring rain to a wooden shelter with a light and muddy floors. My partner who is a Chilean was talking with the owner who advised him that if he wasn´t happy with the way he treated us that we can ¨f@#% off¨. Not a good way to treat your customers! We left the next day.
To make matters worse they had the cheek to try and over charge us for our room. Lucky we had a printed copy of the booking we made via email. Not only that but they also tried to charge us for a night that we were not there!!
Everyone who was staying at Ana Rapu Guest House at the time had nothing positive to say about it. A couple who were camping said that the toilet was never cleaned & the toilet bin was never emptied. They even had to hunt down the owners to refil the toilet paper!
Someone else noted that they had a problem with their room (no hot water suprisingly) but the owners made themselves very scarce eg they hid themselves (as seen by some of the other guests who were wondering what the owners were up to!). Therefore it would be fair to say that the owners are not very helpful or friendly but they will try to rip you off whenever they can! Beware!!!
My partner and I would not recommend this guest house at all!!! Instead try Tekena Inn Hostal, located on the main street, its so much better!!!
