AC Restaurant Nederweert - Zuid Reviews
Travel Plaza on the A2 Southbound Sep 30, 2014
The AC Restaurant Nederweert is a highway rest stop and travel plaza along the A2 motorway between Amsterdam and Maastricht. It is part of the AC highway restaurant and hotel chain, affiliated with Autogrill.
This was a very nice travel plaza, clean, with restrooms, a buffet style food bar, and a small travel store with snacks and sundries. A large dining area is available inside with outside seating, too. No gas/petrol service here, but there is an electric car charging station!
There is a 50 cent charge for restroom use, but it is reimbursed if you buy something.
The companion AC Restaurant across the highway on the northbound lanes has a Burger King. I noted that a group of teenagers was headed over there. (A tunnel under the highway connects the two plazas.)
I wanted just a snack, so bought a bag of Lay's Paprika flavor potato chips and a bottle of water. This is a good segue to discuss Dutch snacks. Paprika flavor potato chips are big in The Netherlands. (They reminded me of Old Bay Seasoning flavored chips found in the Mid-Atlantic states. The Old Bay chips have a similar, but spicier, taste.) Really big in The Netherlands are licorice candies called Drop. Drop comes in a variety of forms, both sweet (zoet) and salty (zout), hard and soft, packaged and loose, available at snack counters and candy stores everywhere. That zout licorice is really good, BTW. I'm on board with the Dutch and their liking of licorice!
