The main reason I think anyone should go to Zakopane is the fantastic hiking through the Tatras? mountains. I went with my entire dorm and we went on a ridiculous trek through the mountains, but seeing the view from the top was fantastic. Once down from the mountains there are plenty of places to eat (including kebabs!!!, see a trend?) and tons of people selling little trinkets. If you are going to buy one of those axe/walking sticks, make sure its metal because the majority of them break pretty easily.
