A Walking Tour of London Oct 08, 2013
My wife and I were recently on holiday in London for 4 days. Trying to capture all of the sights on a reduced schedule, we needed to see as much as possible every day. When we are on vacation, we enjoy a little exercise so we packed some comfortable shoes and prepared for some serious walking. For the most part, our rule was that if what we wanted to see next was within one Tube stop, we walked. Of course once we arrived at the next site, we were again only one stop away from the next, so by the end of the day we had ended up walking several miles. The benefit of walking, however, is that one gets to take in the intimate details of the city that are lost when you take a taxi or the Tube from spot to spot. The other benefit is that you can walk off the heavy pub food and ales that you are bound to eat for lunch every day! The walking tour is also a great way to get aquainted with the lay of the land and allows you to plan where you would like to spend more time; of course you can take the Hop-On-Hop-Off bus sytem for this purpose as well, but I prefer get the extra exercise. Since we stayed at the Hilton on Park Lane, most of the major sites were within a 10k radius. Although I will review the sites that we visited more intimately, the ones that we covered on our 2-day walking tour are shown in the pictures attached to this review.
