A Cote Travel Reviews

Apr 24, 2006

First off, it's actually "A Cote", not Acote as tim referred to it.  But i'll keep the same name so our reviews bucket together.

I agree with Tim, this is a nice restaurant "near" UC Berkeley.  The Rockridge area of oakland is a rather cozy feeling district- the type of place you'd expect to find quaint bookstores, coffee shops and creperies.  All 3 of which are actually in Rockridge.

I love the ambiance set inside A Cote.  It's subdued and private, and the dark finish makes everything feel so much more intimate.  The wait staff was attentive and friendly, and was able to guide us through the menu with ample suggestions and pointers.

Of the dishes I can recall, I remember the french onion soup being superb, as well as one of the duck dishes.  Also, I had a glass of Mad Dog wine, which I ordered solely based on the name.

If in the mood for a romantic french tapas restaurant, definitely check out A Cote.  It's a great place for a footsies date, or as the prologue to an awesome night.

Located on the border of Oakland and Berkeley on College Avenue, A Cote
is my favorite restaurant "near" the UC Berkeley campus (you'll still
need a car to get down there). The restaurant serves French tapas, so
small plates packed with flavor. The decor is trendy but relaxed. The
waitstaff has always been friendly and accomadating. There is also an
outdoor seating area, and during the winter time the outdoor seating is
sealed in by a tent with heaters. For starters, have a plate of french
fries.. the best fries you'll ever have, but order the small plate or
you'll be full before the main dishes come. Since the plates are small
and meant to share, order one to two entree plates per person for your
party. I haven't had a dish that I did not like here.

willahu says: This is my favorite restuarant! It's a delicious, made-to-order sushi buffet that's ridiculously cheap. It's only $10 for lunch and $12 for dinner. Their menu includes appetizers, hand rolls, nigiri, sushi rolls, bento boxs, rice bowls, and ramen bowls. My favorites include the spicy tuna and sp...
Eric says: Oliveto Upstairs:This is just a follow-up to my last review of Oliveto. I went there again and this time made reservations for the upstairs area. The upstairs is really nice, and a lot bigger than you would expect from the entrance. It's a more upscale setting, but still not pretentious (this is Ber...
wlit says: The best Chinese food I've eaten up in nor cal.  Definitely try their hand-made noodles.  Simply the best noodles I've ever had up here.  The place is real small and cozy.  The service is great and reflects that cozy intimate feeling, which is actually real strange given that it'...
