A Cascalheira Vila Nova de Santo Andre Reviews
A Cascalheira Jul 26, 2009
I entered a restaurant where they didn't speak any foreign language but what the heck the entire local community was eating here and I was quite hungry. The only thing I could understand was the beer which we quickly could agree upon.
They apparently asked if I wanted today menu and I had said yes but wondering what I said yes too. One minute later I got the beer, which was so far so good. 5 minutes later the dishes came in one by one and filled the table.
First one I tasted was a mix of rice and liver; liver had never been my favourite but this was eatable. Second dish I knew from earlier visits here; roasted piglets (baby pigs 4-5kg), also including the cut up head. Next to that there was a third dish which contained a very salty sauce and some slices of oranges.
I guess that this was as local as it gets on a Sunday afternoon, and for me it was perfect; I had entered a place where they served a Portuguese local dish - and I got really full.
