Honor the Dead From 9/11 and the Yarnell Fire Mar 02, 2017
On 27 May 2013, Gila Bend dedicated a small park to remember the attack on the United States perpetrated on 11 September 2001. The park includes a 4000 pound steel girder, wood and concrete from the south tower of the World Trade Center, and honors those who died that day and those who serve in the nation's armed forces. The park also honors firefighters who have died in service to their communities. The 19 flags around the perimeter of the park honor the 19 firefighters who lost their lives fighting the Yarnell Hill Fire on 30 June 2013. A nice place to pause and reflect. On the main street through town.
