55 Bar in New York City Jul 24, 2011
Located at the heart of the West Village are in New York City. They market themselves as a prohibition era “dive bar” that has been there since the 1910s, and it does have that that look and feel. However, if you go to their website you get the sense that at this point it is just pure marketing. Regardless, every time I go to New York City I pay them a visit. Often, I they are the main reason a go to the city. They feature mostly local (NYC area) jazz and blues bands and so far I haven’t been disappointed. They do have a cover charge, which the last few times I have been there it has been $10, but I think occasionally they may charge a little bit more depending of the band. Beer prices are reasonable for NYC, maybe $6 or $7. Also, it is a small place, so I recommend getting there early, before 10 PM. Anyway, if you are and Jazz and Blues enthusiast visiting NYC, I highly recommend visiting this place.
