The 3 famous building in Liverpool May 20, 2011
Liverpool would not be complete without a visit to the Pier Head to see the famous 3 Graces. The 3 Graces are 3 buildings built around 100 years ago and are named The Port of Liverpool Building, The Cunard Building and the most famous one of the 3, The Liver Building. These building was built for the trading trade within the ports of liverpool.
The Liver Building was built and opened in 1911 and stands a good 90 meters tall, with 2 mythical "liver" birds that stand on the top of the building which is said that if these birds was too fly away, Liverpool would cease to excist. The clock faces on this amazing building are the largest clock face in the country and are called "George Clocks" because they started at the pricise time as King George V was crowned on 1911. This building was made for an insurrance company dealing with workers relating to losing or wrong wages given to staff.
The Cunard Building was constructed inbetween 1914 and 1917 was construsted for the Cunard Line Shipping Company, This building was built inbetween the Liver Building and the Port of Liverpool Building. This building was made for the Cunard Company until it merger with White Star Line to become the largest passenger steamboat company in the world.
The Port of Liverpool Building was constructed in 1904 and 1907 making this the oldest out of all three buildings. Used to be called Mersey Docks and Harbour Board Offices.
I really dont want to bore you with all these facts and figures but i defo would recommend you to go and see these grade listed building, these are just located around a 5 minute walk from the famous Albert Dock at the Pier Head.
