29th Apartment Melbourne Reviews
Great bar, great music and great crowd. Jul 30, 2011
29th Apartment bar is themed as a New York style apartment. It actually includes a bedroom, a kitchen, a bathroom, a games room, a garden and a lounge room with some Andy Warhol pinches on the decour. The decoration would be enough for me to advise this place! Luckily, there's much more to what it offers!
You can choose to sit at the garden, outside, or at the esplanade (with outdoor heating). If you choose to sit inside you can still choose between comfy couches, tall stools, chairs or even the bed! You can sit inside the bathtub as well, but I've tried and can tell you there's many more comfortable places. If you want to stand, that's ok as well! But most probably you'll feel invited to start dancing. ;) They have a small dancing area in the centre of the Apartment, next to the bar.
If you arrive early in the evening and if you arrive after 9pm you will be surprised by two different scenarios. After 9pm they move some couches around, close the curtains and have the music a tiny bit louder. And, not less important, they lower some prices as well. :)
The game area is actually a game area (just in case you think the chitchat or the music is starting to get dull) In addition to the Pinball and Foosball you have plenty of board games available. There's also a huuuge TV on the wall playing some black and white movies, but that's just for creating the atmosphere, don't expect a movie night.
It's not too pricey, especially if you go there on a Wednesday after 9pm, most drinks (including spirits!) will be $5 and you have Pizza snacks for $1 only! Some other nights they have these and other special prices as well.
The staff is very nice and the service is great. Prices are reasonable (prices are on the website). The music is the contagious type usually and they have thematic nights, so it's not the same every night. Great atmosphere and decoration!
Good for singles, couples or large groups. Mostly crowed with young people, between their 20's and late 30's.
Location is convenient, especially if you decided to stay at St Kilda's hostels/hotels. It's just by the beach. And if you're coming from other area of Melbourne you can easily get the tram which will stop just next to 29th Apartment, or even catch a taxi (there's a taxi stand just in front of the venue).
I love the place!
