Affordable, rooms, but not your typical hotel. This is a small hotel in the lower east side, close to the L train which can get you to almost any other line going uptown or downtown in Manhattan. Rooms are small doubles or triples, with sink, dresser and TV. A few have a private bath, but most do not. This hotel was recently remodeled, and I was impressed considering the price, location, and it being NYC. 2-3 bathrooms are located in each hall for shared use. At first, those I was traveling with found it somewhat awkward, but you get used to it. Sure you may have to wait a couple minutes to use the bathroom, but only in the morning, and most people are considerate to take a shower, use the toilet, but finish getting ready at the sink in their room. Staff isn't the best on the phone, but I didn't have any problems once I was there. Check out their website for more information. Parts of the movie Manhattan Murder Mystery were filmed here. It has definitely changed for the better, but if you watch the movie after staying there, you'll notice the resemblance.
